Community Engagement Network

UBC Community Engagement Network

The Community Engagement Network is for UBC Staff who connect local and global communities with UBC through outreach and engagement. We aim to build a network across campus to learn from each other, share information and resources, and create a sense of community among community-engaged UBC staff.

Most Recent Session: December 3

Fun, Joy + Play on Zoom with the Community Engagement Network

Date:December 3, 2020
Time: 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. PST on Zoom *Session opens at 2:15 to get settled*
Where: Online via Zoom

Let’s gather one last time this year to share in some fun, joy, and play over Zoom — the very platform that has fatigued and perhaps depleted us over the last several months.

Pam Garcia, Deb Pickman, and Michael Denhamer will lead us through an hour’s virtual smorgasbord of writing, creating, drawing, movement, and music to experience possibilities for how we can bring fun, joy, and play into online engagement spaces.

IMPORTANT REQUESTS FOR JOINING THE CALL:

  • Registration will be capped at 40 people
  • Please register via Zoom (not just Outlook) to hold your spot
  • Respect the RSVP: Please cancel your registration if you can no longer make it
  • The best way to set-up for the call is to have your own quiet space and computer with a webcam and earbuds. Plan to have your video on for the session. This is not a webinar, you will be engaging with others. Seeing each other makes a huge difference. All that said – we understand that folks might need to call in, turn off video, and be pulled into other responsibilities during our time together.
  • Please come to the call with pen and paper.
  • You can join the call 15 minutes ahead of time to get settled.

Goals of the CEN

  • Members gain an understanding of who is doing what on and off campus, how they are doing it, and how they might be a resource for others.
  • Members gain new ideas, new connections, and potentially new collaborations will develop as a result.
  • Members discover new ways to understand and approach community engagement as they are exposed to diverse work across campus.

What to expect at a CEN session

Each session will be different, but you can expect:

  • Engaging presentation from host on their community engagement work
  • Q&A with the host
  • Interactive networking opportunity where members will be encouraged to share about the work they do
